AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) took note of a work published by the Distance Education Department of Punjab Universityin which, Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale would have been mentioned as a “terrorist” in the program of MA political science.
While calling for strict action in this matter, the president of the SGPC Harjinder Singh Dhamiin a statement on Wednesday, alleged that “controversial language has been used by the University of Punjabi in the medium Punjabi book of the MA in Political Science. On page 26 et seq. of the relevant book, beginning with the title of the chapter “Punjab De Sikh Jangju Andolan Da Vishleshan” (analysis of the militant Sikh movement in Punjab), Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was targeted and the program contains more controversial material on the Sikh struggle.
Dhami said the SGPC wrote a letter to the Vice Chancellor of Punjab University and the relevant department asking for clarification of the content.
“Such a malicious act by Punjab University is an expression of its anti-Punjab and anti-Sikh intentions which may endanger the peaceful atmosphere of Punjab,” Dhami warned, adding that legal action would be brought if the university did not modify the content and apologized.
